Pilot project in Moosburg: Flex-Bus as a game changer and milestone – Freising

The question of how the Moosburg city bus could be made more attractive has been discussed up and down in the city council countless times in recent years. But now they seem to have found a solution that everyone can live with quite well. It is initially only a four-year, temporary pilot project. But the Flex-Bus – an on-demand service that MVV is offering in collaboration with the Freising district from January 1st – received a consistently positive response when it was officially presented to the city council.

There was talk several times about a “game changer” or a “milestone towards public transport,” as Mayor Josef Dollinger (FW) called it. The Flex bus, “which also serves all districts,” is a “really great thing for the city,” said the mayor. However, it was agreed at the meeting that this new offer had to be advertised massively from the start in order to ensure the necessary acceptance among the population. You have to “go full throttle” when it comes to marketing, said Johannes Becher (Greens).

There was no shortage of ideas in the committee. Philipp Fincke (FDP), who lives in the Aich district and is therefore one of those who have been “left behind” by public transport, as he put it, asked that the new on-demand offer be “presented at the district meetings” and generally “well in to apply to the local districts”. Benedict Gruber (Fresh) suggested introducing the Flex-Bus to schools and clubs. In addition, posters in the city area and flyers displayed in shops should publicize the offer, as Anna-Lena Seisenberger, the responsible employee at the district office, announced at the meeting. Third mayor Michael Stanglmaier (Greens) said that medical practices should not be forgotten when advertising.

The new on-demand offer is, as the name suggests, based on the principle of demand and does not require a timetable. In addition to the existing MVV city bus stops in Moosburg and the districts, there will be around 90 additional stops marked with a green flex sign in Moosburg, Aich, Feldkirchen, Grünseiboldsdorf, Kirchamper, Murr, Niederambach, Oberambach, Oberreit, Pfrombach, Pillhofen give and give Thonstetten. “We really tried to cover the entire city area including districts,” said Seisenberger.

Bookings can be made by phone, online or via the app

Three minibuses are used, each with seven seats, which can be booked individually and taken to one of the Flex Bus stops. The buses run from Monday to Friday between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. and on weekends and public holidays between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. One is suitable for transporting people with reduced mobility. In this case, the need can be specified when booking, as can the need to take a stroller or large pieces of luggage. It is not permitted to bring dogs with you unless it is a guide dog or assistance dog for the disabled or the animal is housed in a suitable transport box.

You can book the Flex bus by calling 089/41 42 43 44. Also online at mvv-auskunft.de or via the MVV app. A one-time registration is required to book via the internet or app. If you want to pay online, you need further registration. Single tickets are also available on the bus. Standing bookings are currently only possible by telephone.

The Flex bus is the only project that the district “could have canceled” due to its tight budget situation – I am very, very grateful that that did not happen, said Michael Stanglmaier, who is responsible for mobility in the city council. “It’s good to test how it works in rural areas.” And it enhances the city center.” After two years, the district office said, they checked for the first time how the offer was accepted. After the pilot project, things will definitely continue in Moosburg, whether as a flex bus or a city bus, we will see,” said Seisenberger.
