MHSAA and MAC recognize Mr. Football award winners

CLINTON, Miss. (WLBT) – The top high school football players in each of the seven MHSAA classes were recognized Wednesday morning.

The MHSAA, Mississippi Association of Coaches and C Spire presented the Mr. Football Awards.

The winners were:

7A Jayden “JJ” Hill (Tupelo)

6A Tony “Deuce” Vance (Hattiesburg)

5A Paul “Trey” Irving (Gautier)

4A Coby King (Greene County)

3A Kamario Taylor (Noxubee County)

2A Adarius McDougle (Sebastopol)

1A Tyshun Willis (Velma Jackson)

McDougle, a senior quarterback for the Bobcats and a member of Southern Miss, is the only player to repeat as Mr. Football this season.

“It was a big goal to achieve it again because with all the recognition I received last year, it was more important for me, my teammates and coaches to achieve it,” he said.

In addition to Sebastopol, another school was represented for the second time in a row. Willis, a senior athlete and Mississippi State commit, is the second Falcon to win the award in as many years, following former teammate Gavin Griffin, who won the 1A Mr. Football Award as a senior in 2023.

“It feels really, really good because we’re 1A and people are overlooking us,” Willis said. “Hard work pays off in the end.”
