The Tigers hold firm to pounce forward to 199cm, the Dogs score twice

RICHMOND has resisted offers for its No.28 pick and instead added a seventh player to its list of changing picks for 2024, with key forward Thomas Sims selected by the Tigers with the opening pick on the second night of the Telstra AFL Draft.

Key forwards Jobe Shanahan and Jack Whitlock were among the holdouts in Wednesday night’s opening round, prompting a flurry of inquiries from rivals for Richmond’s No.28 pick, including reported forays from Essendon and Geelong.

But the Tigers opted to use the pick themselves after their entire five-minute window had passed, adding Northen Knights product Sims to complete a draft that would boost their roster and club’s momentum in the second Year of the rebuilding of coach Adem Yze will change.

That left the Tigers with three highly touted key forwards from this year’s selection in Jonty Faull, Harry Armstrong and Sims, while also strengthening their midfield and snapping up a defender in a draft led by their No. 1 pick Sam Lalor.

The Western Bulldogs were quick to sign dashing defender Lachie Jaques with pick No.29 before West Coast pounced on Shanahan at No.30, securing the mighty Bendigo Pioneers at a bargain price.

The Bulldogs selected midfielder/forward Josh Dolan at No. 31, while St Kilda added versatile 194cm defender James Barrat at No. 32.
