Wi-Fi 7: technology and providers

With the 6GHz band, Wi-Fi provides 7 additional Wi-Fi channels, reducing congestion and interference. New access points can therefore eliminate bottlenecks.
While the usable spectrum in the USA is expanding by 1200 MHz, in Europe it is currently only 480 MHz. The release of further frequencies is in preparation. Access points usually only need a software update for this.
Access points based on the new Wi-Fi 6E/7 standards not only offer more throughput for individual clients, but also for more devices at the same time. In addition, there is energy-saving communication with IoT sensors.
Many new functions are optional and the noticeable improvements of the first generation of Wi-Fi 7 devices compared to Wi-Fi 6E are still limited. If all options are exhausted, the transmission capacity within a radio cell could quadruple.

New knives are constantly needed to make WLANs faster and more powerful. It has already been proven several times that there is no further progress in radio transmission: the limits of physics seem to have been reached. But it has also been proven that there are always new improvements that regularly result in new standards. Wireless technology only has a few options for leaps in innovation. With wired Ethernet, the medium can be changed (fiber optic instead of copper) and improved through the quality of the cable or shielding. However, air does not always transmit equally well (depending on humidity, for example) and there is not always a direct wave connection.

The development of WLANs in recent years is all the more astonishing. For this purpose, all possible adjustment screws were turned in several iterations: frame size, modulation and more transmitting and receiving parts (radios).
