CM Atishi launches solar portal in Delhi; Know how to apply

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Wednesday launched the ‘Delhi Solar Portal’ to make rooftop solar systems accessible and convenient to Delhi residents. The initiative is in line with the Delhi Solar Energy Policy and aims to achieve a cumulative rooftop solar capacity of 750 MW by 2027. The portal is accessible at solar.delhi.gov.in and has been set up to help citizens transition to solar energy effortlessly.

Launching the ‘Solar Portal’ at the Delhi Secretariat, Prime Minister Atishi highlighted that it will enable citizens to avail subsidies, get solar panels installed on roofs and apply for generation-based incentives from the comfort of their homes.

“This portal simplifies the process and empowers residents to take charge of their energy needs,” said CM Atishi, adding that the initiative will help achieve at least 25 percent of the target of 750 MW solar power generation in the country Rooftop, which is part of AAP’s solar policy introduced in March this year. “Under this policy, an ambitious target has been set to cover 25% of Delhi’s total energy consumption from solar energy by 2027.”

The portal will enable Delhi residents to become prosumers (electricity consumers who generate additional solar power) by installing rooftop solar panels using the portal. Even households with consumption of more than 400 units cannot receive any electricity bill by using the solar portal.

The solar portal has a solar calculator feature that allows users to determine the potential energy production and savings from rooftop solar systems. The tool aims to encourage people in the state capital to choose the solar portal by highlighting its environmental and financial benefits.

Reiterating the AAP government’s commitment to clean and green energy, CM Atishi said, “The Delhi government has always been committed to clean and green energy. As you know, Delhi is the only state in the country that has shut down all thermal power plants within its borders to prevent its citizens from suffering due to pollution.

By installing rooftop solar panels, consumers with monthly electricity consumption of more than 400 units can enjoy subsidy benefits. “If you install solar panels on the roof, you are also entitled to net metering. Net metering means that if you use 400 units of electricity but generate 300 units from solar energy, you only have to pay for 100 units. The application for net metering can also be submitted directly through the portal, eliminating the need to visit electricity company offices or fill out separate forms. Additionally, applications for Delhi government subsidies can also be submitted through this portal,” Atishi said.

She further said that the portal has a solar calculator that allows users to enter details such as location, roof size and area to estimate how much solar energy they can generate by installing the panels in their homes.

The Delhi Solar Policy also offers financial benefits to the users. Under the scheme, consumers who generate more electricity than they consume can earn money from the Delhi government. This will not only help consumers save on electricity bills but also earn money every month for the excess energy they generate by installing rooftop solar panels. “Residential customers will get Rs 2 per unit as generation-based incentive, while commercial and industrial units will get Rs 1 per unit,” she said.

What is Delhi Solar Portal?

Delhi Solar Portal is a comprehensive online platform that makes it easier for residents and businesses in the national capital to install rooftop solar systems. It is an initiative of the AAP government to achieve a cumulative rooftop solar capacity of 750 MW by 2027, as per the Delhi Solar Energy Policy.

Key Features of Delhi Solar Portal

Central information hub: Users can access detailed information about Delhi Solar Energy Policy on the portal, including benefits of rooftop solar, support structures and related regulations.

Online applications: The portal will also help users apply for net metering and access the Delhi government’s capital grants and Generation-Based Incentive (GBI).

Solar calculator: This interactive tool allows users to enter data such as roof area, monthly electricity consumption and desired solar system capacity. The inputs then help users get estimates on installation costs, monthly GBI, applicable subsidies, potential utility bill savings and payback period.

Provider directory: The portal has a list of providers that helps consumers choose reputable service providers for their solar systems.

Delhi Solar Portal Economic Incentives

Generation Based Incentive (GBI): Consumers receive financial incentives based on the amount of solar energy produced five years after installation.

  • Residential consumers up to 3 kW: ₹3 per kWh
  • Residential consumers between 3 and 10 kW: ₹2 per kWh
  • Shared apartments (GHS) up to 500 kW: ₹2 per kWh
  • Commercial and industrial consumers (up to 200 MW): ₹1 per kWh

Capital grant: There is also a one-time subsidy of ₹2,000 per kW for residential customers. The cap is ₹10,000 per consumer. This subsidy complements the central government subsidy.

What is the application process for the Delhi Solar Portal?

  1. Registration: Consumers are required to register on the Delhi Solar Portal and submit applications for Net Metering, GBI and Capital Subsidy.
  2. processing: The portal optimizes the entire application process and coordinates with the responsible departments for further approvals.
  3. installation: Once approved, consumers can have the panels installed through Empanel providers.
  4. Incentive payout: After installation, the GBI is matched with the consumer’s electricity bill. If there is excess GBI, it will be credited directly to the consumer’s bank account within seven days of the billing cycle. The capital subsidy will only be credited to the first electricity bill after the solar system on the roof has been commissioned.
