Ford wants to cut another 4,000 jobs in Europe

US car maker Ford Motor has announced plans to cut another 4,000 jobs, mainly in Germany and the UK, as demand for electric vehicles falls in Europe.

Ford said on Wednesday that the workforce cuts would take place by the end of 2027, adding that it would consult with governments, unions and other social partners.

US media outlet Bloomberg reports that the job cuts amount to 14 percent of the automaker’s European workforce.

The announcement follows an earlier plan to cut 3,800 jobs in Europe that Ford unveiled in February last year.

In a statement, Ford said: “What we are missing in Europe and Germany is an unambiguous, clear policy agenda to advance e-mobility.”

It called for public investment in charging infrastructure and incentives for consumers.

German automaker Volkswagen is also considering closing factories and cutting jobs in its home country amid increasing competition from Chinese electric vehicle makers.
