John David Washington works as a family

For John David Washington, his Art Nouveau film “The Piano Lesson” is a family affair. It is his father, Denzel, who is the producer and his young brother, Malcolm, who signed the production on stage. After numerous Broadway plays, the adaptation of August Wilson’s bestseller can be seen on Netflix on November 22, 2024.

This film is the premiere of a major production made by your little brother Malcolm. Did you stage that in the production?

Nevertheless, the opposite would be the case. Malcolm worked on the cameras several years ago and was just beginning this adaptation of the play. That’s what I suggested for the role of Boy Willie Charles. His story took place in the city of Pittsburgh in 1936 during the Great Depression when he was affected by America, especially the big books and the minorities. The family piano was decorated by the deceased ancestors of the Charles family, the title of our film.

It’s about Samuel L. Jackson, the patriarch of the Charles family, who joins in the veneration of the role of his father, Denzel Washington…

The incarnated Samuel is the role of the play that our youngest company performs with numerous reprises on a Broadway stage. Papa is a big supporter of the writer August Wilson and for him it was a part of the production team that he embodied in this film adaptation.

What is a movie that you put on the screen with your head?

I’m not sure if the son will be completely free before five or six years. But I saw more months ago, because the family representatives are a tradition in Washington when they reached our age. I was looking for our father, Malcolm and my moviegoers. Our conversation was primarily about the football tournament throughout the sport and I appreciated it daily in terms of an American football ensemble.

Not ready to send your child to the cinema?

Certainly not Dad, this is the sport we encourage today and it is because I have been walking in America all my life, more than 40 years ago, it took a while to get started (Rire). In the house, that’s not so important for us anymore because we watch great films and feel the passion for art.

Do you plateau when your little brother is 33 and reaches his 40s?

On the contrary, I admire Malcolm’s effort after his debuts and look forward to a project having a day’s theatrical release. My dear, Olivia experienced a courtesy episode in “The Piano Lesson.” C’était un vrai travail de famille!
