Activate mental reserves: How our brain stays fit as we age

Many people fear that as they get older, not only their physical strength but also their mental strength will diminish. But our brain is an amazing organ that can still be extremely fit even in advanced years – if it is nurtured in the right way

Once we get to a certain age, each and every one of us notices the less pleasant traces of our years: our skin appears slacker. The muscles gain strength. What used to be easy became increasingly difficult. And with the signs of physical decline, anxious questions may arise: What are my cognitive abilities? Will my brain also inevitably lose strength – mental strength? And: Are there ways and means to stay fit in your head for as long as possible?

The good news first: Yes, there is a lot we can do to protect our cognitive potential well into old age. In a sense, it is up to us how we age our brains – and thus our minds.
