Jones and Rafferty, both of Alabama, received the 2024 CSG 20 Under 40 Leadership Award

The Council of State Governments (CSG) has announced the recipients of its 2024 20 Under 40 Leadership Award, recognizing 20 aspiring state leaders for their commitment to public service and innovative solutions. This year’s honorees represent 16 states and territories and represent a diverse group of public servants committed to improving their communities. Among them are Alabama Senator Andrew Jones and Representative Neil Rafferty.

“These exceptional leaders embody the values of civility, collaboration and innovation,” said David Adkins, CSG executive director. “Your work inspires confidence in the future of the state government.”

Established in 2020, the award recognizes elected and appointed officials age 40 or younger who demonstrate excellence in bipartisan leadership, advocate for meaningful policy change and serve as advocates for their constituents. Winners will be selected from a competitive pool based on their contribution to advancing the public good.

The program was inspired by New Hampshire Senator Lou D’Allesandro, who as CSG national chair in 2019 sought to shine a spotlight on the next generation of public servants. Since its inception, the award has honored 100 leaders and highlighted their contributions to governance and policy.

“The passion and commitment these leaders bring to their roles reflects the spirit of public service that Sen. D’Allesandro has championed throughout his career,” Adkins added.

Honorees will be honored at the CSG National Conference in New Orleans, December 4-7. Further information about the program and future nominations can be found here.
