The personnel situation at Borussia Dortmund has eased further before the home game against SC Freiburg. In the game on Saturday (from 3:30 p.m. in the t-online live ticker), BVB can rely on regular goalkeeper Gregor Kobel and central defender Waldemar Anton, among others, as coach Nuri Şahin said. The offensive players Giovanni Reyna and Julien Duranville, who were also recently injured, are also fit again.

However, BVB will still have to do without Karim Adeyemi, Niklas Süle and Kjell Wätjen against Breisgauer. “All three would be training on the pitch again, but it wasn’t enough for the weekend,” said Şahin. Captain Emre Can is also suspended after his red card in the 3-1 defeat in Mainz.

Serhou Guirassy represents a special moment in his career. The Dortmund striker is one of the last five nominees for the title of “Africa Footballer of the Year”. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang already won this award in 2015 during his time at BVB.

In addition to Guirassy, Achraf Hakimi (Morocco/PSG) and Ademola Lookman (Nigeria/Bergamo) are considered favorites. Both players stood out with strong performances, Lookman, among other things, with his success in the Europa League. For Guirassy, the award would be another milestone as BVB fights for titles this season.

“Dad has to tell you a story!” With these words Mario Götze begins an emotional letter to his two children. Son Rome was born in the summer of 2020, followed three years later by daughter Gioia. The former Dortmund player now dedicates moving lines to them on the platform “The Players’ Tribune” – and describes in detail the dramatic moments surrounding the premature birth of his firstborn.

“I will never forget when your mother was seven months pregnant and our midwife came to live with us in Dortmund. She was doing an ultrasound, a routine checkup, to make sure everything was okay, but suddenly she said, ‘It looks like your baby isn’t doing well.'”

Rome’s heartbeat was too slow. “You have to go to the hospital immediately,” the midwife said to the expectant parents. Read more about this here.

Borussia Dortmund will be honored for its social commitment on Saturday in Castrop-Rauxel. The club received an honorary award at a gala celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Solidarfonds Foundation NRW. “Borussia Dortmund is one of the most successful football clubs in the world and is always aware of its social responsibility,” explained the foundation.

Since 2012, BVB has bundled its projects in the “leuchte auf” foundation. Preventive projects for children and young people are supported here, including work in the “Nordstadtliga Dortmund” and the BVB political learning center. Ecological programs and fan engagement such as the “Black and Yellow Family” are also actively promoted.
