Man arrested for alleged theft of a Bobcat skid steer and flatbed trailer

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Sparks police have arrested a man on charges of stealing a Bobcat skid steer loader and a flatbed trailer from a construction site in north Reno.

On November 1, Sparks Police officers were called to a construction site east of the Nugget Casino after employees reported that a 2022 Bobcat skid steer loader had been stolen. The Bobcat was valued at $72,000.

Investigators were able to identify a suspect and found the skid steer loader on a flatbed trailer in a residential neighborhood in northwest Reno. It was also determined that the trailer was stolen from a store in Sparks on approximately the same day as the Bobcat was stolen.

On November 11, Reno Police officers unknowingly conducted a traffic stop on the same suspect. After initially stopping, he appeared uncooperative and fled from the officers in his vehicle.

Then on Nov. 20, investigators narrowed their search to a commercial complex in Fallon and eventually took the suspect into custody at Dotty’s Casino.

The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Jason Pineda. Pineda was charged with grand theft auto, two counts of possession of stolen property, conspiracy to commit grand theft auto, grand larceny, conspiracy to commit grand theft auto, misdemeanor counts of obstructing and resisting arrest and a suspended registration.
