Will there be one? Dune 3?

As fans of Herbert’s books know, the great narrative of dune goes far beyond the events of the first book – and in some ways the first two films still leave a lot unexplored. First of all, Paul’s efforts to turn Arrakis into a “paradise” were not shown, aside from a flash-forward with a now-adult Alia confirming that his plans were a success and that Arrakis will have water again in the future. Recently, The Hollywood Reporter shared the news that Villeneuve is in talks to adapt the non-fiction book. Nuclear War: A Scenario. The report also gave a small update on the third dune.

“Villeneuve and Legendary are currently developing a third film dune Series based on the writings of science fiction author Frank Herbert. “Dune: Part Two,” released in March by Warner Bros., is currently the highest-grossing film domestically with over $250 million.” THR wrote.

“I did both films back to back, which makes perfect sense to me,” Villeneuve recently shared Empire Magazine. “I felt like it was a good idea to continue straight after Part one. We have already designed, written and so on. But it also meant being on Arrakis for six years straight, and I think it would be healthy to step back a bit. First, make sure we have a strong script. What I want to avoid is not having something finished. I never did it and now I feel like it could be dangerous because of the buzz. We have to make sure all ideas are on paper.”

“If we go back, it has to be real, it has to be relevant if I ever do this Dune Messiah(it is) because it will be better than Part Two. Otherwise I won’t do it,” he added.
