A man runs over and injures an Albany police officer while fleeing a traffic stop

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) – An Albany police officer was seriously injured after being run over by a fleeing man, the Albany Police Department (APD) said.

Around 2 a.m. Wednesday, two officers stopped a man who refused to identify himself. The officers attempted to arrest the man because he did not have or produce a driver’s license.

According to the APD, the man resisted arrest and drove away, dragging Officer Melissa Unrau with him before running her over and leaving her on the road.

The man was later identified as Derham Edward Mohamed. He was arrested about four hours later in another car and charged:

  • attempted first-degree assault
  • Second degree assault
  • Assault on a public safety officer
  • fleeing or attempting to elude the police officer
  • Do not carry or show your driving license
  • Failure to fulfill the duties of a driver (crime)

Unrau was treated and is recovering from her injuries at home. The other officer was uninjured.
