The 2025 Kia EV9 GT is here to get your whole family from 0-60 in 4.3 seconds

Did you fall asleep last night thinking that what you really need out of life is a family car with about 500 horsepower that doesn’t use gas? If so, you’re in luck because the 2025 Kia EV9 GT has shown its face in Los Angeles, and it’s exactly what we all expected.

Not to be confused with the EV9 GT-Line that you can buy today, the new EV9 GT follows in the footsteps of the smaller EV6 GT. It looks sportier than the standard EV9, but doesn’t seem completely over the top. The EV6 GT’s lime green motif returns and the finish of the brake calipers is repeated on the interior contrast elements.

The dual-motor setup (160 kW front, 270 kW rear) results in a total of 501 hp (122 horses more in the GT-Line) and unspecified torque. Electronic torque vectoring ensures that the wheels get most of the traction, however much it may be. While the larger EV9 has 75 fewer horses than the EV6 GT, Kia says there’s still enough power to get the three-rower to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. Not bad for a family car.

And like its smaller brother, the EV9 GT gets more than just a little more power. This is the first three-row SUV in the entire Kia range (ICE or EV) with electronically controlled suspension. It is, of course, integrated into the EV9 GT’s driving mode selection, which includes Normal, Eco, Sport and My Drive modes. The “My Drive” option allows drivers to customize their experience or jump straight to the sportiest settings by pressing the bright green “GT” button on the left side of the steering wheel.

Kia is also experimenting with new ways to engage owners in the easier electric vehicle driving experience. Borrowing a trick from its cousin Hyundai, Kia implemented a simulated transmission with paddle shifters that mimic the experience of a traditional dual-clutch automatic. This is coupled with a sound generator in the cabin that simulates not only “engine noise” but also the sounds of the gear changes themselves.

Although Kia hasn’t released all of the EV9 GT’s specs yet, there are a few things we know for sure. It retains the 7.8-inch ground clearance and 5,000-pound towing capacity of the standard EV9, and its 800-volt electrical architecture means it’s compatible with the same fast-charging configurations as the standard three-row. It will also have a NACS port. Total range and battery capacity are still uncertain.
