Pollution in Delhi: The central government recommends staggered travel times and carpooling to curb vehicle emissions

NEW DELHI: The state capital is struggling extremely severe air pollution levels, Central government Offices in Delhi/NCR have been directed to maintain staggered timings and encourage their officers and staff to practice Form carpools Or use public transportation to minimize vehicular pollution.
The steps are part of the measures taken under the Stage TV (Severe Air Quality) of the revised Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) for Delhi/NCR.
“In view of severe air pollution in Delhi, the various Ministries/Departments/Organizations (MDOs) of the Central Government are hereby recommended to take the following measures in relation to offices in Delhi/NCR as part of the measures envisaged by the Air Quality Management Commission under GRAP , until GRAP-IV comes into force,” the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said in an office memorandum distributed to secretaries of all central ministries. .
Officials and employees traveling to office in private vehicles should be encouraged to pool vehicles and use public transport to minimize vehicular pollution, DoPT further told secretaries.
While the DoPT asked the central ministries, departments and organizations to take the measures as per their functional requirements, it asked them to ensure that the efficiency or productivity of the staff is not affected in any way.
