Alison Hammond reveals her late mother gives her advice like it’s “not good”.

Alison Hammond has told how she listens to her late mother giving her advice about her love life.

This Morning presenter Hammond’s mother, Maria, died in 2020 after being diagnosed with cancer. The star has now written her first book, Bombshell, and revealed that the main character’s mother died just like her.

She said she included passages in the book where Madison’s mother spoke to her.

Speaking about her book on The One Show, Hammond said: “It’s dedicated to her (Hammond’s mother), but she didn’t get to see it, but Madison, the character, her mother also passed away.”

“There are moments in the book where Madison’s mother is talking to her, and that happens to me all the time. For example, I hear my mother giving me advice: ‘No, no, he’s not good.'”

“Bombshell” is about a woman who investigates and tries to figure out what’s going on after her husband suddenly leaves her. Bake Off presenter Hammond said she wrote the story from her own experiences.

“Madison lives in my head,” she said. “The only experiences I’ve had are my life, so obviously everything that happens in this book comes from my head or from people I know in the industry who have told me a bit of gossip.”

“It’s from my own experiences, but it’s just the right amount of drama!”

Hammond also shared how she reworked the ending of “Bombshell” on the advice of Aidan, her 19-year-old DJ son.

She explained that he read parts during the lecture and didn’t like her plan for the conclusion.

“Towards the end, because I basically wanted to kill the main character… but I didn’t end up killing him because he was like, ‘What are you doing?'” she said.

“He always does his best anyway. He watches me on TV and says, ‘You shouldn’t have said that.’ So he read it over time and was like, “Mom, change the ending,” and I was like, “Okay.” When he says it, it’ll come to mind and then I have to change the ending. It was good advice.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
