Support for undocumented members of our campus community

Dear campus community,

We write today to reiterate our support and care for undocumented members of the UC Santa Cruz community. We are proud that our campus is founded on an ethos of equity and inclusion and are deeply proud of our longstanding efforts to advance educational opportunities. We embrace diversity in all its forms, work diligently to foster an inclusive community, and celebrate the legacy, achievements and contributions of all our community members.

We want every member of our campus community to know:

Undocumented and DACAmented students (those who have applied and received documentation through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program) are eligible to attend UC Santa Cruz. We are committed to ensuring that all students, regardless of immigration status, have equal access to an education at UC Santa Cruz. As we align ourselves with Assembly Bill 21 (AB21) and the UC Statement of Policy for Undocumented Members of the UC Community, which require campuses to provide an environment that is safe and welcoming for all Work because it is the right thing to do.

Undocumented and DACAmented community members belong at UC Santa Cruz. The efforts, successes, and contributions of our undocumented and DAC-mentioned students make our community stronger and more vibrant.

Undocumented and DACAmented members of our community have access to a range of campus resources. Here are a few that might be helpful:

  • Immigration Legal Advice: If you or your loved ones need confidential advice to assess eligibility for immigration assistance programs, need assistance renewing your DACA status, or have questions about your status, you can schedule an appointment with a legal service provider for assistance to obtain.
  • Undocumented Student Services: Undocumented Student Services provides a wide range of support systems, resources, and community for undocumented and DACAmented students.
  • Resources for Assembly Bill 21: Approved and signed by former Governor Brown, AB21 ensures access to higher education for every student regardless of immigration status. This campus webpage provides information about AB21 resources available to undocumented and DACAmented students at UC Santa Cruz. If you are notified that an immigration officer is expected to enter, will enter, or has entered the campus to execute an immigration order, notify Garrett Naiman, associate vice chancellor for student development and engagement and dean of students, as soon as possible.   • Slug Support: Slug Support can help connect you to a variety of other campus resources.

Counseling and psychological services also provide support for students, while our Employee Assistance Program provides counseling and support for employees. On the Margins offers coaching sessions for students and staff. To report discrimination based on protected characteristics, contact the Office of Equity and Equal Protection.

During these uncertain times, it is imperative that everyone in our community knows that our support for our undocumented and DACAmented students is unwavering. UC Santa Cruz will forever be committed to access to education, equity and inclusion, consistent with our principles of community.

We have worked to ensure that our campus has built an ethos of equity and inclusion, and we are very thorough in organizing our efforts to collect large amounts of data to expand the possibilities of education. We strive to understand diversity in all its forms, work with due diligence to create an inclusive community, and celebrate the heritage, logarie, and contributions for all members of our community.

During this time of uncertainty, it is imperative for everyone in our community that we reach out to our undocumented and DACA students and keep them out of trouble. UC Santa Cruz learned our Principios de Comunidad and gained access, equity and inclusion in the community.
