Curlers beat Italy – Team Tirinzoni plays again for European Championship gold – Sport

  • The Swiss curlers defeated Italy 7-3 in the European Championship semi-finals in Lohja (FIN) and, like in the last two years, are in the final.
  • In the final, the opponent will be Sweden on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. (seen live on SRF).
  • On Thursday morning, the defending champions completed the round robin perfectly with their 9th win in their 9th game.

They simply cannot be beaten: The Swiss curlers around Skip Silvana Tirinzoni and Fourth Alina Pätz celebrated their next victory at the European Championships in Finland after a perfect preliminary round in the semi-finals. The defending champions CC Aarau defeated Italy 7-3 in the reprise of last year’s European Championship final.

This was equivalent to the 10th success de suite in Lohja. Across all tournaments, the Swiss have 21 successes in a row.

Swiss foursome in the 6th end

The preliminary decision is made in the 6th end. Thanks to a perfect last stone from Pätz, the Swiss, who had previously come away empty-handed in the four ends, wrote a house of four. Tirinzoni said about this ending after the game: “For a long time it looked like the Italians would steal 2 stones.” And in the end we are the ones who score 4 stones. The momentum definitely changed.”

This makes it 6:2 for the defending champions. In the following end Switzerland stole another stone, so Italy needed a small miracle in the remaining 3 ends. But this didn’t happen. After the 8th end, Skip Stefania Constantini’s team gave up the game with the score at 3:7.

12 wins in a row against Constantini’s Italy

This means that Pätz and Co. remain Constantini’s biggest feared opponents. Since the 25-year-old acted as skip for Italy, the team met Switzerland in the Lohja semi-finals for the 12th time at a European Championship or World Cup. All parties were lost.

Next big party against Sweden

In the final on Saturday morning, the Swiss will face Sweden, the second best team in the round robin (7 wins from 9 games). Switzerland won the preliminary round game 7:5 thanks to a three-man game in the 5th end.
