A Wisconsin man who faked his own death and was found in Europe doesn’t want to return home

GREEN LAKE, Wis. – Authorities have made contact with a Wisconsin man who has been missing since August after he faked his own death. Green Lake County Sheriff Mark Podoll said they spoke with 45-year-old Ryan Borgwardt, who confirmed he was safe in an apartment.

However, the police don’t know exactly where Borgwardt is, only that he is somewhere in Eastern Europe. A video apparently filmed by Borgwardt was played during a news conference on Thursday and shows him saying he was uninjured.

“The good news is we know he’s alive. The bad news is that we don’t know exactly where Ryan is and he hasn’t decided to return home yet,” Podoll said. “We communicated with Ryan almost daily.”
