Avoid Disasters When Cooking with Gas: Chef Talks Kitchen Safety

JACKSON, Tenn. – The kitchen will be a popular place to be over the next week, and we have tips to help you ensure a safe Thanksgiving dinner.

Chef Chris Galarza, founder of Forward Dining Solutions, spoke to us about the potential negative effects of cooking on gas stoves.

When cooking with gas, Chef Galarza recommends leaving your stove’s vent on or opening a window to allow the fumes to escape.

He also recommends cooking with an open flame as little as possible and instead using the oven whenever possible.

“For example, instead of cooking green beans, maybe you wrap them in prosciutto, throw them in your oven and finish them that way, right? “As much as you can do in the oven will be better,” said Chef Galarza.

Since gas stoves can emit carbon monoxide, Chef Galarza reminds us that it is important to have a working carbon monoxide detector in your home to ensure the safety of your family.
