Suspect tries to escape from police custody and is shot

An accused in over a dozen criminal cases suffered a gunshot wound to his left leg in a clash with police in Moga today.

Moga SSP Ajay Gandhi said accused Sunil Kumar, a resident of Indira Puri Colony in Moga, was arrested on Wednesday by a team of Moga Police from Dehradun in a case registered against him for criminal assault dated November 15.

In the case, Sunil and his associates had allegedly used two firearms and to recover these weapons, the police had taken him to an abandoned house in Moga. At the scene, Sunil allegedly attacked the police with already loaded firearms and tried to escape. In the police’s defensive firing, Sunil’s left leg was hit, the SSP claimed.

Injured Sunil was shifted to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot.
