The international robot competition RoboRave for children and young people aged 10 to 20 was held again in Lörrach. 25 teams with a total of 62 children and young people from France, Switzerland and Germany competed. The competition was organized by the Freiburg Region Student Research Center, Wiesental location, and the Phaenovum Lörrach-Dreiländereck Student Research Center.

Numerous visitors in the well-filled Tumringer Hall were amazed at the concentrated children and young people who were fine-tuning their programs and at the many artfully built robot models, according to a statement. The participants could choose different tasks, the challenges, with different levels of difficulty.

The Jousting Challenge was about knights on two robots trying to push the opponent down while jousting. In the SumoBot Challenge, a robot tries to push one or two opponents out of a ring. In the line-following challenge, an autonomous robot fills as many ping-pong balls as possible into a tower. A race track made of angled wooden boards had to be completed as quickly as possible in the “a-MAZE-ing Challenge”. In the FireFighting Challenge, candles had to be extinguished by robots in a given time. Self-developed robot products were presented at the Entrepreneurial Challenge. The focus of the competition is on fun learning, mutual exchange and teamwork. Any robot kit, including a self-developed robot, is permitted up to a total value of 1,500 euros. The programming language and the control can also be freely selected.

The competition is an international competition in which groups from the region but also from all over the world take part. In addition to German teams, six teams from Mulhouse in Alsace and one team from Craon, Mayenne department in northwestern France also took part this year. A delegation from the Slovakian RoboRAVE Organization visited the German competition to exchange experiences.
