“Zero Emission Challenge” in Weiz: HTL Steyr triumphed in the “Zero Emission Challenge” kart race

Double victory for the HTL Steyr in kart racing in the spirit of pollution-free mobility.

STEYR. Two teams from the HTL Steyr celebrated a sensational success when they took part in the nationwide “Zero Emission Challenge” for the first time: With an impressive double victory, the two teams from the mechanical engineering and vehicle technology department in Weiz secured the top places.

In the spirit of emission-free mobility

The nationwide competition is all about emission-free mobility and offered the students an ideal platform to demonstrate their technical skills. The young technicians impressively demonstrate that there is no need to worry about future-oriented vehicles.

Self-modified karts

The competition challenged the participants in a variety of ways: The teams competed with self-developed or modified karts that were equipped with environmentally friendly drives such as electric motors or fuel cells. In addition to dynamic tests such as acceleration races and endurance tests on the ARBÖ Driving Safety Center Ludersdorf track, the students also had to present their vehicles in static disciplines. This included technical tests and English-language presentations to a jury of experts in which how the cars worked was explained.

HTL Steyr was convincing

The two teams from the HTL Steyr are convincing across the board: supported by committed teachers and a strong team spirit, they delivered top performances in all evaluation categories and soon led the field of participants, which included a total of 23 teams. The result: first and second place in the overall ranking – a deserved double victory for the aspiring high school graduates! “The atmosphere was electric,” reported one participant.

“Between the excitement and the final optimizations in the pits, it quickly felt like Formula 1.”

The jury and spectators were equally impressed by the professionalism, innovative strength and commitment of the previous engineers.

Energy transition

It doesn’t work without open spaces

Experts agree: Austria can only achieve the energy transition through the construction of ground-mounted PV. Hubert Fechner, chairman of the photovoltaics technology platform, comes to a clear conclusion in a current study. Since, according to domestic climate goals, there must be an increase in photovoltaic energy of up to 21 terawatt hours by 2030, the potential on buildings and other infrastructure “will by no means be sufficient to achieve these goals,” according to the expert. Use potential…
