Germany’s second largest private bank is appointing a new chief financial officer. This also relieves pressure on Commerzbank boss Bettina Orlopp in the fight against a possible takeover by the Italian Unicredit.

Frankfurt/Main – Commerzbank has found a new chief financial officer. The supervisory board appoints Carsten Schmitt to the board, as the DAX group announces. Schmitt comes from the Danish Danske Bank, but previously worked for Commerzbank in various positions for more than 20 years. He is scheduled to take office in spring 2025 at the latest. The new Commerzbank boss Bettina Orlopp is currently also working as head of finance. Orlopp took over the top job at the beginning of October in the middle of the takeover battle with the major Italian bank Unicredit.
