ELKTON, Md. – The suspected hit-and-run driver responsible for the death of 11-year-old Mesiah Lafayette has been arrested in Wilmington, Delaware.

Nestor La Guillen Parra, 31, is accused of attacking and killing Lafayette over the weekend at the intersection of Elkton Road and Belle Hill Road in Cecil County.

According to police, Parra was caught in Delaware on his way to Georgia with the intention of fleeing the country to Mexico.

Parra has already been extradited to Maryland, where he is being held without bail on involuntary manslaughter charges.

His next court date is December 16th.

Meanwhile, Lafayette’s family set up a GoFundMe to help cover funeral costs.

“This arrest would not have been possible without the support and cooperation of our community members. We are extremely grateful to everyone who has reached out to us in any way,” Elkton police said. “This arrest would not have been possible without our partners at the United States Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, who provided much-needed assistance in the search for Parra.”
