The Milwaukee Brewers manager gives a shockingly honest answer about Willy Adames’ free agency

Transparency is a good thing in life, but that’s certainly not what Milwaukee Brewers fans wanted to hear from manager Pat Murphy.

A day after winning the National League Manager of the Year award, Murphy went on the popular Foul Territory show and gave a not-so-great answer when asked about free-agent shortstop Willy Adames.

Murphy was asked how much he wanted Adames to return to the club and said the following:

“If he comes back, it means he didn’t get the deal he was looking for.”

While it was always a strong chance that Adames would return to Milwaukee, this basically shows fans that there is no chance they can afford him.

While this is unfortunate, it is nothing new for Milwaukee, who traded away Josh Hader and Corbin Burnes in recent seasons to avoid paying them a lot of money. It should be noted that they made a big deal to former MVP Christian Yelich.

If Adames leaves Milwaukee, it would be a big loss for a group that won the National League Central a season ago. The Brewers won the division and advanced to the National League wild card round, where they lost to the New York Mets.

Adames hit .251 with 32 home runs and 112 RBI last season. He helped maintain the lineup even when Yelich was out for part of the year.

Adames is a seven-year veteran of his time with the Tampa Bay Rays and Brewers and a lifetime .248 hitter. He has hit exactly 150 home runs in his career, with 32 from this year being his career high.
